The first grants are going out from a new COVID-19 fund.
The United Way Fox Cities and Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region set up the Community Response Fund.
The foundation’s Tammy Geenen says they’re handing out $80,000 to four groups.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is receiving $50,000 to help food pantries in the region. Geenen says they include organizations in Outagamie, Calumet, Shawano and Waupaca counties, along with the Neenah and Menasha area.
St. Vincent de Paul in Appleton is getting $20,000 to prevent homelessness in Outagamie and Waupaca counties.
The Fox Valley Veterans Council and the Safe Haven domestic abuse shelter in Shawano County will each receive $5,000.
Geenen says they’ve been able to raise more than $500,000 for the fund, so far.
